Hello Lovelies! Animal testing is one of the ugly drawbacks in the beauty industry and I always appreciate brands that doesn’t test their products on animals. According to the PETA website, my top 5 makeup brands are PETA certified that I want to share to you all! ❤
5. NYX COSMETICS
Since 2010, NYX Cosmetics has been a dedicated member of PETA’S Beauty Without Bunnies program. However in 2014, NYX was acquired by L’Oreal which is a company that chooses to sell in China, where animal testing is required before going into the market. NYX chose to remain loyal and confirmed to be dedicated to its cruelty free policy even though it’s under L’Oreal’s ownership.
4. WET N WILD
Wet N Wild products are made in China but not sold in China, so they don’t have to follow their laws of animal testing! May I add….how cute are these Wet N Wild lipsticks that have cruelty-free bunny icons on them?! Super adorbs. ❤
3. BARE MINERALS
Like Wet N Wild, Bare Minerals products are not sold in China. Even though their parent company is Shiseido which is a brand that does test on animals, they claim that they don’t test their products on animals on their official website.
2. ColourPop Cosmetics
Who doesn’t know about ColourPop? This brand is super affordable and cute. On their “About Us” section states: “We test our products in the nicest way possible, leaving fur babies to be fur babies and experimenting on people instead (the people at ColourPop HQ to be exact!)”
1. Tarte Cosmetics
There has been a huge debate on whether Tarte Cosmetics is considered cruelty-free or not. Tarte has been sold to KOSE which is a non-cruelty free Japanese brand. Tarte CEO, Maureen Kelly argues that the brand itself is cruelty free and that it’s products are not tested on animals or sold in China. To me, Tarte is cruelty free since they’re PETA certified on its website. Tarte has professed to remain cruelty free just like NYX and Bare Minerals even if they’re bought by a larger brand. You may call me naive but this is just my opinion.
Let me know in the comments what’s your favorite cruelty-free makeup brands and your thoughts on whether these brands are really cruelty-free or not! Stay tuned for upcoming posts on my in-depth reviews on these products! ❤ xoxo
